AEM related FAQs

Answers to all the questions you have for us

What happens to AEM's DAM (Digital Asset Management) after migration?

AEM's Digital Asset Management library is not replicated inside Webflow — Webflow's asset manager is a simpler upload-and-use system rather than a full DAM. For clients who need a proper DAM after moving to Webflow, Flowtrix integrates with dedicated DAM platforms (Bynder, Cloudinary, Canto, or Brandfolder) via API. Media assets from AEM are audited, cleaned, and uploaded to the chosen DAM, then served to the Webflow site through a CDN URL connection.

Does Webflow support the editorial workflow and permission controls we use in AEM?

Webflow Enterprise covers the core editorial workflow needs that most marketing teams use: Page Branching lets editors draft, stage, and review page changes before they go live; Custom Roles with granular permissions control who can edit which pages, collections, or site settings; and publishing approval gates ensure brand-sensitive content is reviewed before publication. Advanced workflow automation (e.g., multi-stage editorial review chains) can be extended using Webflow Logic or connected external tools.

How does Flowtrix handle AEM component and template migration?

AEM Core Components and Experience Fragments are translated into Webflow's component architecture during the migration. Flowtrix audits every AEM component for its underlying visual and functional requirements, then rebuilds each as a Webflow Component in the Designer. The result maintains the same modular, reusable block system that AEM teams rely on, but with a drag-and-drop visual interface instead of HTL template code — accessible to any marketing team member, not just certified AEM developers.

Why do enterprise companies migrate from Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) to Webflow?

AEM migrations are driven primarily by cost and agility. AEM on-premise or AEM Cloud Service licensing typically costs $200,000 to $600,000 per year, requires a dedicated team of AEM-certified Java developers, and involves weeks of development time for routine page template changes. Webflow Enterprise eliminates licensing costs, gives marketing teams a visual editor for all page and content updates, and reduces page update cycles from a two-week sprint to a 10-minute editor session. Flowtrix clients migrating from AEM typically report 60 to 80% reductions in total cost of ownership.
